Totally detached from most real people

In some ivory tower or steeple

Filled with profs and kids so far on the left

But funded by riches from right wing heft

Elite universities will explode…

Without change they’ll end up in the commode.

When it comes to aspirational goals

And thinking about what’s good for our souls

Mid-level management just leaps to mind!

The great panacea for all mankind…

Now this noble crew feels caught in a vise.

Yes, trouble is brewing in Paradise…

Texas is known for always going big

From the cattle’s horn to the oil rig.

It’s a bit of a myth, like so much there.

(Except for their ego… and ladies’ hair!)

But good fun to visit and see the sights,

And try to avoid political fights…

Sailing has often been misunderstood

And puts forth an image that’s just not good.

But whoa what’s this?! A brand new skipper

And man is she making the sport a lot hipper!

With cameras rolling and no other crewman

She’s a great sailor and shows she’s human.

It falls outside of the Circle of Life

And slices your heart as if with a knife.

Losing a child makes the world all wrong

And parents may struggle to get along.

Finding a way to move forward at all

Shows incredible strength when most would fall.

Love him or hate him, Mitch played a huge role…

Some think he sent us into a Black Hole.

Others believe that he did the Lord’s work –

If only for driving liberals berserk!

He surely knew how to play the game well.

For better or worse? Only time will tell.

It all used to happen in the same year

And frankly helped keep things a bit more clear.

Presidential elections would take place

And summer and winter Olympics would race.

Every four years, it made things so easy…

Leap Year gave structure, made it all breezy.

I’ve been renting cars for 35 years

And yet even today I’m filled with fears

When I have to decide what to include

Always worried that I’m gonna be screwed…

I don’t know what they are trying to pull!

So should I return it with the tank full…?

We have now entered that shoulder season

When sports reporters search for a reason

To get out of bed, the big news has passed

March Madness and baseball are in the forecast

Midseason hockey and hoops have nothing new…

So we learn about uniforms being see-through.

When countries nearby you pose a real threat –

Not Canada or Mexico – what you get

Is a sense of urgency that’s for real

And citizens respond to the appeal

That those of all ages will be needed.

Here I fear that that call goes unheeded.
