In the debate about government’s role

And what exactly should be its goal

It’s heartening to see some original thought…

With sin taxes waning Japan has caught

Onto an idea that just makes sense –

Encourage heavy drinking to commence!

This ruthless predator inspired fear

And swam the oceans without any peer.

Bigger and badder than anyone thought

The mega shark won every fight it fought.

But then the world changed and food supply shrank

And these cocky beasts shriveled up and sank.

In normal times I would’ve been appalled.

Liz Cheney for Pres? I’m not enthralled.

But now I yearn for “crazy that’s normal”

Far right is fine so long as there’s formal

Voting and process and commitment to

Supporting democracy, not a coup.

The Founding Fathers all had a vision:

A two party system without division.

They wanted different ideas in play

And so to move forward we’d find a way

To take the best of both and compromise…

Not mock and degrade and stigmatize.

Hilary Clinton likely broke the law

With her reckless servers, that we all saw.

She got off the hook, now the question is

Were her actions then, similar to his?

The possible difference is not in the act

But in the obstruction after the fact.

OJ was accused of killing his wife

And if found guilty would surely do life.

The case against him was solid as rock

But man he got off, and it was a crock…

The basic plan was to kick up some dust

It didn’t matter at all what was just.

At first this made me really want to puke.

What, all holy now and beyond rebuke?

But then I thought, well heck, why not?

Though they sit in a privileged spot,

Gained by fortunes burning fossil fuel,

All should be welcomed to fight this duel.

As the years tick by my mindset changes

And it would seem there are some exchanges

Of previous doctrine I once held dear

For new lines of thinking, brilliantly clear.

Like the four day work week, only for louts…

Turns out we can profit in huge amounts!

Folks with money like to think that it can,

But not when it comes to an old bridge span!

The dollars involved are so very large

It boggles the mind, this luxury barge.

So moments like this stand out very stark –

Yup, you’re rich… and alone on the Ark.

No dollar amount can fix all the harm

But I hope this is a punch in the arm

And all the wannabe liars like him

Will see that sometimes results can be grim.

I doubt that will happen or this will last

But at least this schmuck may be held back fast.
